

What Makes a McKibbon Maintenance Chief Engineer?
As a leading member of the property management team, the Maintenance Engineer is accountable for proper hotel operations. The Maintenance Engineer guides the workings of the hotel, including (but not limited to) plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pool and general facilities maintenance. You will report to the General Manager, and you are responsible for maintaining the highest level of quality work to ensure minimal disruption to guests.
Job duties:
- Fix mechanicals, appliances and other machinery or arrange for repairs when needed
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Remove hazardous materials from all areas accessible to employees and guests
- Arrange for regular maintenance of equipment and internal systems (e.g. HVAC system, alarms, security cameras, etc.)
- Check rooms, kitchens and outbuildings to identify needs for repairs or renovations
- Design and oversee the schedule for upgrades and routine repairs of the warehouse, restaurant, main buildings and outbuildings.
- Monitor activities that happen outside the building, such as proper waste disposal and recycling
- Fix minor malfunctions in restaurant and serving equipment
- Coordinate parking space allocation
- Keep track of regular and ad-hoc facility expenses
- Conduct market research and compare costs and benefits when evaluating new vendors
- Maintain an updated record of invoices from external partners (e.g. suppliers, insurance agents, security guards)
- Research new services and appliances to facilitate operations

- The knowledge and expertise to determine the best action in response to a customer complaint, comment or inquiry
- The knowledge and expertise to determine the best time to schedule maintenance jobs in order to properly fix the issue and avoid disrupting the hotel’s operations
- Skills in the use of fire equipment (fire hoses and hand-held extinguishers)
- Skills in conducting fire drills and Life Safety Programs
- Monitoring the performance of a service/contractor to ensure that contracted service is performed satisfactorily
- Evaluating and selecting job applicants based on information obtained through personnel questionnaires, resumes, and interviews
- Observing employees’ work performance for comparison with performance standards
- Conducting on-the-job training
- Creating a positive and fruitful learning environment that encourages employees to further develop their job skills
Education:
- Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering.
